The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars, less formally known as The Washington Center, is an independent, nonprofit organization serving hundreds of universities in the United States and other countries.
Course Level: Fellowship is available to pursue master’s degree programme.
Study Subject: Fellowship is awarded in the field of Foreign Service such as business administration, economics, public policy, international affairs, and other relevant fields.
Scholarship Award: Fellowship will cover the following:
- Up to $37,500 annually for tuition, room and board, books, mandatory fees and some travel expenses for a two-year master’s degree in fields related to the Foreign Service such as business administration, economics, public policy, international affairs, and other relevant fields.
- Up to $21,500 will be provided each academic year for two years for a Fellow’s tuition
- Up to $16,000 stipend per academic year for two years for room and board, books/laboratory fees, and travel between the Fellow’s residence and university location (not to exceed $600 per academic year).
- Two summer internships, one at a domestic office of the Department of State in Washington, D.C. and one overseas at a U.S. embassy or consulate. The program provides stipends, transportation and housing for these internships.
- Orientation to the Program and the Foreign Service at the Department of State.
- Mentoring from a Foreign Service Officer throughout the duration of the fellowship.
- Employment in the Department of State Foreign Service for those who successfully complete the program and Foreign Service entry requirements in accordance with applicable law and State Department policy.

Scholarship can be taken in the USA
Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:
- Only individuals who are United States citizens.
- Applicants must be seeking admission to a U.S. graduate school beginning in fall 2018.
- Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale at the time of application and this grade point average must be maintained throughout participation in the program.
- Applicants must enroll in a two-year, full-time master’s degree program, at U.S. based graduate institutions only, in an academic field relevant to the work of the Foreign Service (public policy, international affairs, public administration, business, economics, political science, sociology, or foreign languages) and be prepared to enter the Foreign Service in Summer 2020.
- Applicants must be able to attend June 2018 orientation in Washington, D.C. if selected.
- Applicants must be available to fulfil the summer internship obligations (summer 2019 & summer 2020).
Nationality: Applicants from USA are eligible to apply for the fellowship.

- Create an account. Note: If you have applied for any other TWC programs please create an account using a different email addresses for your Pickering application.
- Start and submit the online application by following the instructions. Throughout the process, you can save your application and return to it at a later time.
- Submit supplemental items.
- You will be required to submit supplemental documents as PDF files directly through the online application. These include:
- An unofficial copy of your transcript.
- A copy of your certification of U.S. citizenship (U.S. passport, birth certificate or naturalization papers accepted).
- Your GRE/GMAT scores.
- Your personal statement.
- Your updated resume.
- Your most recent financial aid award letter listing grants or loans.
- Your most recent Student Aid Report (SAR).
- Statement of Financial Need.
- Provide letters of recommendation.
- Request letters from two recommenders.
- Add your two recommenders in the online application.
- Once you click the “Submit Request” button, your recommenders will receive an email from The Washington Center, requesting that they submit an online recommendation on your behalf. Recommenders will be taken to an online form where they will enter some information before uploading and submitting their recommendation letter.
- You will automatically receive a notification email when your recommender completes your recommendation. If you do not receive a notification email in a timely fashion, please follow up with your recommender to ensure that they still intend to complete your recommendation by the application deadline.
- Letters of recommendation received after the deadline will not be accepted. Applications that do not contain both letters of recommendation are incomplete and will not be considered. No more than two (2) letters of recommendation will be allowed.
