Like Macbeth, like Mugabe

If one can probe into former President Mugabe’s thoughts now, he would be regretting why he was so weak to allow his wife to destroy him. It is to the Zimbabweans’ credit that they were ready to endure Mugabe’s long and uninspiring rule till he dies but his wife’s ambition and his inability to rein her in altered the course of his destiny and legacy. Though very lucky that it wasn’t a coup of the traditional pattern that removed him, for he would have ended up in his grave or in prison, it was still a disgrace to be forced out of power.

A married woman when she started her romantic dalliances with the former President, “Gucci Grace” could easily wear Lady Macbeth’s character fittingly. She claimed to love her husband but the love was for the office he held and the opportunity she had to manipulate him and Zimbabwean politics to her advantage.

The lesson remains what it has always been even if men have not always learnt. Men should beware of allowing their women to control them. Desperate and dangerous women are on the prowl now physically and politically terminating their husbands’ lives.  It is good they are kept at bay.
