The English Graduate Student Council’s 17th Annual Symposium

Call for Papers

Chico State’s English Graduate Student Council’s 17th Annual Symposium

The 17th Annual English Graduate Student Council Symposium is scheduled for March 14, 2018 at 6:00pm in the Arts & Humanities Building at California State University, Chico. Only students enrolled in a California State University may submit.

Creative works in poetry, fiction, and nonfiction as well as research and development papers in major English disciplines (literature, linguistics, literacy, composition, and rhetoric) are invited to submit abstracts for consideration. Accepted presentations are not to exceed 15 minutes in length. Multimedia presentations are welcome, but you must include what technology you will need for your presentation in your submission.

Undergraduate and graduate scholars and artists studying English are invited to email a 250-word abstract and 150-word biography to EGSC at the following email address by Wednesday, February 7, 2018:  ChicoStateEGSC@gmail.com.

In addition to the abstract, applicants are asked to complete this Google Form providing the following information: paper title, author’s name, status (undergraduate student, graduate student, other/scholar-at-large), institutional affiliation, and email address. Please include any technical requirements for the presentation in your form submission. Those whose submissions are accepted for presentation will be notified by February 14th, 2018 and are expected to attend the symposium.

Papers will be considered for publication in the English Graduate Student Council’s literary journal, The Manzanita.

The English Graduate Student Council and CSU, Chico are unable to cover the costs of travel and housing for symposium participants. However, the opportunities to present professional work that will be considered for publication in The Manzanita are unique to our university’s symposium and will show favorably on graduate and doctoral applications, resumes, and CVs. The networking opportunities to connect with students at CSU, Chico and other universities in California provide valuable statewide professional connections. We hope these benefits will encourage students from out of town to join us.
