■The 4th World Social Science Forum will be hosted by Kyushu University in Japan. It is the first time an Asian institution has hosted the Forum. Since it was established as the fourth imperial university in 1911, Kyushu University has, among all major Japanese research universities, had strong ties with Korea, China and the rest of East Asia. This came naturally to Kyushu University, which is located western Japan in Fukuoka, a major trading hub for the region since the 7th century.
